Florida – 505DE Redundant steam turbine control
This project is for the upgrade of the existing Woodward 509 Control System on a Dresser Rand 30MW steam turbine at a Paper Mill. The proposed new system is a redundant 505DE (Single Extraction) control.
The upgrade was considered for the following reasons:
- Increase the reliability of this critical piece of plant equipment,
- Design in redundant configuration for Power supplies, I/O’s and CPU’s, to prevent a single point failure from stopping the critical turbine.
- Replacement of the troublsome RVDT’s for dual LVDT’s with dual SPC’s modules, for controlling the dual coil TM-25 actuators.
- 509 Control is obsolete and has limited parts availablity.
