Control system upgrade on a class of ships for a major international cruise line
Project Overview
Pneumatic master/slave loadsharing system caused problems during operation and it was costly and difficult to find spare parts for the out-dated control system. 828 control system with HMI touch screen supervisory unit replaced obsolete PGA with load divider governors.
Control System Components
- Woodward 828 Digital Control with Marine Load Sharing Software
- Woodward PG-Actuator
- MPU’s (Magnetic Pick-Up’s) for speed sensing
- HMI (Human Machine Interface) to monitor data
Control/Customer Benefits
Better reliability by eliminating air-leaks and calibration issues, more reliable clutching - automatic clutch in sequence, improved loadsharing and engine overload protection. The customer realized fuel savings as a result of clutching engine in and out at sea without reducing propeller speed and easier troubleshooting using the HMI.
