Power generation facility in the Caribbean upgrades obsolete control system.
Project Overview
The original analog equipment provided speed control, synchronizing and load control in separate control modules. The new system provides a fully integrated control system in one package with the Speed Control, Synchronizing, Droop Control, Isochronous Load Sharing, and Base Load Control.
In addition to individual generator control, one module provides control of the CDE interconnection with utility, including synchronizing all generators back to the utility.

Control System Components
- AtlasSC Woodward Controller
- EGCP3 Digital Synchronizer and Load Control
- Basler AVR
- HMI Operator Panel– Local and Remote
Control/Customer Benefits
The new system has setpoints for each generator to be selected from Common 828 – HMI, import export setpoint to be selected from the existing PLC – HMI, unload is activated from the Common 828 – HMI, automatic Frequency Compensation and Voltage Compensation. Customer is assured that the total system will not trip when the 69kV circuit breaker opens and the units are in island mode. There is a bumpless transition from island to utility and all machines synch to the utility as one.
