Governor Control Systems, Inc.

Control system upgrade on large ferries, operating 24/7 in a major US harbor. GCS worked closely with ABS and the USCG to obtain system design approval.

Project Overview
Pneumatic load sharing system had not been working for several years, causing imbalanced load, causing the engines to run at low efficiency. The old pneumatic telegraph system resulted in leaks and complicated transfer solenoids. The vessel has 2 bridges and switches control every 30 minutes.

Control/Customer Benefits
The control provides several functions including speed governing, mechanical load sharing, clutching/ declutching control logic, speed matching during clutching, and soft engine loading/unloading. The control uses a master/slave relationship during clutching and load sharing operations.

An HMI Operator Touch Screen Panel providing the operator the means to monitor engine conditions and select various operation control modes, as well as gathering alarms and trend data from each engine was included.
