Integrated Turbine Control System
Project Overview
An integrated turbine control, comprised of a complex set of independent modules, was retrofitted on a 12 MVA GE generator to replace the original mechanical-hydraulic control system. The Integrated Turbine Control TM (ITC) delivers custom modular design; each module provides a distinct function, ultimately creating a fully autonomous turbine control and safety system with HMI display of turbine graphics and data trending. The system is designed to provide complete monitoring of speed, load, frequency, pressure, voltage, vibration, alarms, as well as system starts and stops.
Control System Components
The modular design utilizes the best-in-class equipment, enabling the system to follow a standard format while being customized to the end-users specific needs. Woodward Industrial Control products and other ancillary devices are included:
- Woodward’s 505E digital speed/load control
- EGCP3 synchronizer
- TM25 actuators
- Protech Overspeed trip device
- Custom GAP programming
- HMI - provides full graphics of the turbine, data logging and trending of key system parameters, offering a complete turbine system overview
- Bentley Nevada vibration monitoring
- Allen Bradley PLC5
- ESD Emergency Shutdown Circuit - a normally energized circuit which will de-energize if any shutdown fault is activated.
Customer/Control System Benefits
- Complete automation of the turbine and its ancillary equipment integrates all Control, Power Management, Monitoring Alarm, Shutdown and Sequencing functions in one autonomous package for a cleaner and more defined turbine
control system
- Independent, integrated control & safety system
- Easily configured to meet plant operation changes
- Reliable starting of the turbine, automatic hot and cold turbine starts with controlled acceleration ramps, warm up times and repeatability.
- Built-in electronic over-speed trip and other emergency trip logic
