Mechanical Drive Upgrade Installations Performed
by GCS
Mechanical drive turbines have typically been controlled by mechanical
governors which have been on the prime mover for a number of years.
Initially adequate, today’s demand for more work with less
manpower has created the need for automation with many turbines
requiring control from remote DCS systems with little or no supervision.
Digital controls are cost effective, offer an environment which
is stable and repeatable, with consistent start-up and ramping of
the turbine while increasing the overall life expectancy of the
machine.
The most common applications for mechanical drive turbines are
ID & FD fans, Boiler
Feedwater Pumps, crude pumps, and Lineshaft
Drive. The prime mover in these applications usually require
a closed loop remote process control and consistent speed control.
